We have held a series of activities to mark the 16 days of Activism. In our advocacy efforts we believe violence against women and girls can eventually stop if more is done especially at the Policy level. Ironically, during the 16 days there are women who have died at the hands of men. Some have been raped.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
One of the notable events during the 16 days was the Ndoto Halisi Launch.
CAS Nadia Ahmed Abdalla initiative under the tag Ndoto Halisi has partnered with international organizations such as United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) which is also funding the initiative.
In one of her projects, CAS Nadia oversaw a group of young people scoop 1000 Dollars in a competition aimed at bringing a solution to mental health issues in the country. This initiative is part of preparation before launching her book in December 13, 2021.to further amplify her need to impact society. Nadia has written a book called, Of Dreams and Whatever that was launched in December 2021.
In her speech CAS Nadia reiterated that, “I am driven by the zeal of influencing change in our society. I am very hard working and a go-getter working towards changing the narratives of the minorities in our country. I wanted to show young women and girls who looked like me that we can also be part of the decision-making table, part of policy reforms and just be a representation of the minorities, which is where I come from,” she stated.
Polycom girls attended and graced the event. This is a milestone for the Organization as we expose the girls to various platforms and avenues for change.
