You as a Girl
Who are you when you are simply yourself?
Being a girl comes with many expectations.
You are often told how to speak, how to behave, what to dream about, what is appropriate for you, and even what kind of woman you should become. Sometimes, the expectations are so loud that you can forget to listen to the quietest and most important voice — your own.
But you are more than the expectations placed on you.
You are a girl with your own story, your own ideas, your own experiences, your own strengths, and your own vision of the future.
And that matters.
You don’t have to fit into one definition of leadership
For a long time, leadership has been presented as something that belongs to people who are loud, powerful, confident, or always certain of themselves.
But leadership can look different.
It can be the girl who speaks up when something isn’t right.
It can be the girl who listens to her friends when they need someone.
It can be the girl who creates something from almost nothing.
It can be the girl who asks difficult questions.
It can be the girl who is still discovering herself but refuses to stop learning.
Leadership can be bold. It can be quiet. It can be creative. It can be compassionate.
Most importantly, leadership can look like you.
This is the heart of Polycom Girls’ 6th Annual Girls Assembly, themed “Unleashing Authentic Feminine Leadership.”
The Assembly is creating a space where girls and young women can explore leadership without having to shrink themselves to fit someone else’s definition of what a leader should be.
Your voice deserves space
Every girl carries experiences that deserve to be heard.
Your story may be different from the girl sitting next to you. Your dreams may be different. Your challenges may be different. Your community may be different.
That difference is not a weakness.
It is part of what makes your voice valuable.
When girls are given safe spaces to speak, share, question, create, and participate, they are not simply being given a microphone. They are being reminded that their thoughts matter and that they have a place in conversations about their communities and their futures.
The Girls Assembly brings girls, young women, mentors, facilitators, policymakers, and global changemakers into the same space — not simply to talk about girls, but to create opportunities for girls to participate, connect, and help shape conversations that affect their lives.
You are allowed to care about yourself too
Leadership is not only about what you do for everyone else.
It is also about knowing yourself, understanding your emotions, recognizing your limits, and taking care of your wellbeing.
You don’t have to be strong every minute of every day.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You are allowed to pause.
You are allowed to learn.
You are allowed to ask for help.
You are allowed to grow at your own pace.
That is why wellness is part of the Girls Assembly’s vision of leadership. Because a girl who understands that her wellbeing matters is better equipped to participate, create, lead, and make decisions from a place of self-awareness.
There is power in finding your people
Sometimes, becoming confident begins with realizing that you are not alone.
There are other girls asking the same questions.
Other girls are trying to understand who they are.
Other girls are challenging expectations.
Other girls are building businesses, creating art, advocating for their communities, pursuing education, telling their stories, and imagining possibilities that did not exist for previous generations.
Connection can remind you that your journey does not have to be walked alone.
Through mentorship, conversations, shared experiences, and intergenerational connections, the Girls Assembly creates room for girls and young women to learn from one another and from women who have walked different paths before them.
So, who are you as a girl?
Maybe you are still figuring it out.
And that’s okay.
You don’t need a perfect answer.
You can be ambitious and still be learning.
You can be confident and still have moments of doubt.
You can be soft and still be powerful.
You can care deeply about others while learning to care for yourself.
You can change your mind.
You can discover new dreams.
You can become someone you have not yet imagined.
You are not required to become a version of someone else to be a leader.
Your leadership can come from your identity, your experiences, your creativity, your courage, your compassion, and your voice.
That is what authentic leadership means: leading without losing yourself.
Your story is already in motion
The 6th Annual Girls Assembly is more than a gathering.
It is an invitation.
An invitation to connect.
An invitation to create.
An invitation to speak.
An invitation to challenge limiting beliefs.
An invitation to celebrate who you are becoming.
And an invitation to recognize that the future is not something you simply wait for.
You have a place in shaping it.
So, before you ask whether you are ready to lead, perhaps ask yourself something different:
Who am I when I am fully myself?
Because maybe the girl you are today is already carrying the beginnings of the leader you will become tomorrow.
And maybe authentic leadership begins right there — with you as a girl.
