Advancing Peace and Security for girls and women

Program Overview

In following the footsteps of their founder, who actively took it upon herself to quell 2007 post election violence and all other incidences of insecurity in Kibera by collaborating with other mothers and women, Polycom Girls actively contributes to advancing peace and security for girls and women through dedicated efforts and strategic initiatives. Violence and insecurity disproportionately affect women, exacerbating the prevailing challenges faced by them. Women are predisposed to violence at home, in the community, and nationally—whether through domestic violence, community conflicts, or civil wars—leading to displacement, injuries, and loss of lives. Polycom Girls creates safe spaces for women to appreciate each other’s diversity through sports, peacebuilding collaborations with institutions such as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, and by training and equipping women to be community leaders for peaceful advocacy.
