Collaborating with Boys and Men as Gender Champions

Program Overview

Polycom Girls stresses that promoting gender equality does not entail favoring one gender over another but rather entails building a more equitable and just society for everyone. Polycom, therefore, supports local initiatives involving boys and men, encouraging their participation in observing key international days and advocating for policies addressing gender-based issues. The organization facilitates open and respectful dialogues between Girls, boys, men, and women to better understand each other’s experiences and perspectives while actively pushing against retrogressive and stereotypical beliefs. Through such collaborations, Polycom has observed boys and men becoming advocates for challenging traditional gender norms, leading to increased awareness and questioning of harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). This has been actively witnessed through open conversations in schools, fostering a collective effort to end harmful practices. The program has reached a total of 1,957 boys and young men, including 1,494 adolescent boys and 463 adult men through a program dubbed The Boys and Young Men (BYM) Edition Program, which is structured around three critical aspects namely: Gender Championship, Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mental Health education.
