Project Name: Green Accountability Project
The Green Accountability Platform aims to address the lack of transparency, limited grassroots engagement, and insufficient accountability in climate finance governance. By fostering collaborative action, empowering grassroots women, and improving data accessibility, the program seeks to enhance the effectiveness of community-led climate responses. The initiative will engage grassroots organizations, public authorities, and other stakeholders to promote equitable climate finance policies and practices.
- Foster Collaborative Action: Build partnerships among grassroots women's organizations, government agencies, and civil society to advocate for equitable climate finance.
- Empower Grassroots Women: Enhance the capacity of grassroots women to understand and influence climate finance architectures.
- Improve Data Accessibility: Increase the availability and relevance of climate data for grassroots organizations to support advocacy and project development.
- Objective 1: Foster Collaborative Action
- Establish Grassroots’ Green Accountability Community of Practice (CoP): Create a network of 10 trained actors engaged in national budgeting processes (Oct–Nov 2024).
- Facilitate Quarterly Twitter Spaces – Women Academy: Share tools and increase CoP support (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec 2025).
- Host 2 Physical Urban Thinkers Campus: Raise awareness among national stakeholders (Jun 2025).
- Host 1 Physical Exchange Learning Platform: Enhance regional knowledge sharing (Jun 2025).
- Objective 2: Empower Grassroots Women
- Develop Women-Featured Comic Book: Create an accessible resource on climate financing (Nov 2024–Feb 2025).
- Support CoP Member Attendance at African Region Forum: Increase project visibility (Apr 2025).
- Objective 3: Improve Data Accessibility
- Integrate CoP into National Budgeting Processes: Enhance access to climate data (Ongoing).
- Collaborate with Organizations: Improve data relevance for grassroots groups (Ongoing).
- 2.1 Document at least two tools, strategies or approaches (referred here as practices) that advance: a) accountability of governments, financing institutions, partners, or your own organizations; or b) grassroots women’s participation in decision-making, implementation and monitoring of climate policies and finance.
- 2.2 Form a Grassroots’ Green Accountability Community of Practice (CoP) with other grantees to share practices, learnings, strengthen strategies and produce a grassroots common framework for accountability (for holding government, financing institutions, partners and ourselves accountable).
- 2.3: Convene and document at least 3 meetings at regional level with HC members for peer exchange, strengthening HC members’ capacities and consulting on the development of a framework for accountability.
- 2.4: Organize with other grantees a grassroots-led Academy in 2025 to share lessons learnt from in-country experiences, present collective outcomes of the programme and exchange strategies and approaches with other actors.
- 2.5: Engage with Green Platform for Social Accountability partners and affinity groups as relevant, and represent HC movement in global and regional spaces.
- Bottom-up Approach: Prioritize locally-led adaptation to center grassroots voices.
- Community-Based Engagement: Use comic books to foster relatable discussions.
- Collaborative Partnerships: Build trust with grassroots organizations and leaders.
- Capacity Building: Provide training on climate finance and accountability.
- Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate workshops, conferences, and online platforms.
- Advocacy: Promote policies supporting locally-led adaptation.
