Holidays are normally a crucial time for teenage girls. The 2 months holiday makes it even more key, with teenage pregnancy reportedly high this year and the HIV new infection rate highest among Adolescents. Polycom in partnership with UNFPA has successfully engaged up to 2000 girls from Kibera this holiday to equip them with SRH information as well as Life skill enabling them to make sound decisions regarding their body and life.

Some of the key topics being raised by the girls include;

Sexual Harassment
Boyfriend / girlfriend relationships
Relationships with parents
SEX
SPONSOR
Hygiene
Reproductive Health
Pregnancy
Parenting teenagers
UTI and STI
Contraceptives

8 girls were referred for special care at the hospital, two presenting with Herpes while the other 4 presenting with candidiasis. One needed post traumatic counselling being a rape survivor.

SRH and Life skills are the main ways to engage adolescents and Youth to be aware of emerging issues and their input, role and responsibility over their own lives.
